The short answer
Water on the floor around the Caf CJE family comes from one of three places: the defrost drain, the fill or filter connections, or the drain pan. The matrix below lists two model tags that differ only in their trailing revision characters, so a part that suits one usually suits its neighbours, and the tag still decides. Two of those are owner-clearable, and the third is a part. Locating the water before opening anything is what keeps this from becoming a long job.
What you can observe on these models
- A steady drip from the dispenser after each use — Normal for a second or two; a drip that keeps going is the dispenser valve or a line that is holding pressure.
- The leak appears only every several hours — That period matches the defrost cycle almost exactly and points the whole diagnosis at the drain.
- Damp or buckled flooring in front of the cabinet — A slow leak that has been running for weeks. The source is usually the same drain, not a new failure.
- Water inside the door liner or along the gasket — Condensation from a seal that no longer touches, which is a heat-load problem as much as a water one.
- NEAR MISS — water inside plus a warm cabinet — Meltwater from a freezer that has stopped holding temperature is a cooling fault. Work the temperature first; the water stops when the cold returns.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Ice maker or dispenser water path overfilling — Ranked first because the frost ridge at the mould edge is visible evidence before anything is dismantled.
- Defrost drain plugged at the trough or the check valve — Second: it is the default cause for fresh-food-side water and it survives every other repair until the drain itself is cleared.
- Filter cartridge seating or an aftermarket cartridge — Third because it is the cause that starts on a date the owner can name — the day the filter was changed.
- Drain pan and levelling — Fourth: a cabinet tilted forward carries pan water to the front edge and drips it where nobody expects a leak.
- Door seal condensation — Last on this platform, and worth checking only when everything upstream is dry.
Check in this order, and why
- Close the water shutoff behind the cabinet — If the puddle stops growing, the fault is on the supply side and everything inside the cabinet can wait.
- Check the filter head and the cartridge collar — Most supply weeps start at a cartridge that was replaced, cross-threaded or does not match this head.
- Open the freezer floor and look for an ice sheet — A sheet under the drawers or the bin is the drain or the fill tube, and it is the evidence that survives after the floor has been mopped.
- Level the cabinet last — A forward tilt turns a small pan overflow into a floor puddle, so correct it once the real source is closed.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water that has reached the floor may also have reached the wiring at the base of the cabinet, so dry everything before restoring power, and keep the unit off if the breaker has tripped even once during the leak.

When to call a technician
The line here is pressure: unpressurised meltwater is yours to clear, pressurised supply water is not. Call for anything at the inlet valve or the line fittings, for a drain that refuses to stay clear, and for a cracked pan that needs the unit pulled and the compressor area accessed. Call the same day if flooring is already buckling — the repair and the damage run on different clocks.
