The short answer
Ice faults on the Caf CAE family fall into three buckets: no water in, water in but no harvest, and ice made but jammed on the way out. Work out which bucket you are in before touching anything, because each one has a different first check and they do not overlap.
What you can observe on these models
- The ice maker runs but the dispenser delivers nothing — That splits the fault into the delivery chute and auger rather than the maker itself.
- A frost plug at the end of the fill tube — The visible signature of a fill that overshot or a tube that lost its alignment; the next fill freezes on top of the last.
- Ice production stopped after a filter change — An unseated cartridge or an aftermarket filter that does not match the head restricts flow immediately.
- The bail arm is in the raised position — On arm-equipped models this is the off switch, and it is knocked up by a shifted bin more often than anyone expects.
- NEAR MISS — water leaking from the dispenser front — That is a water-leak fault rather than a production fault, and it belongs on the leak page.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Freezer temperature above the harvest point — First on a cabinet whose cubes are also fusing in the bin: both symptoms come from the same warm freezer, and fixing the ice maker would fix nothing.
- Supply flow — shutoff partly closed, filter restricted or a kinked line — Second because it is the cause that reappears after any move or filter change.
- Fill tube ice plug — Third: it follows from the two causes above rather than standing alone, so clearing it without fixing them buys a few days.
- Dispenser chute or auger jam — Fourth — empty the bin, break the sheet under it and try again before ordering anything.
- Module, ejector or inlet valve — Last: the electrical parts, and the ones that need a meter to condemn honestly.
Check in this order, and why
- Read the freezer temperature against 0 °F (−18 °C) — Harvest waits on the mould reaching its release point, so a warm freezer stalls a perfectly good ice maker.
- Date the water filter — A cartridge past its life, or an aftermarket one that does not seat in this head, drops flow before it drops taste.
- Trace the supply line from the shutoff to the unit — Look for a crushed line behind the cabinet and a valve that is only part open; both are common after a move.
- Only then look at the module — By this point the water side is proven, and a module that still will not cycle is a real fault rather than an assumption.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or the breaker before any panel comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the water shutoff before disturbing the supply line or the filter head, and have a towel ready — the line stays under pressure until it is bled. Never run the ice maker with a hand near the ejector.

When to call a technician
Clearing ice, reseating a bin, changing a cartridge and opening a shutoff are yours. Call once a part has to be condemned — valve, module, thermostat or auger motor — because each of those needs the tag from the interior label and a test rather than a guess. Call urgently if you find water pooled under the cabinet rather than inside it.
