In short
Water in the base of the cabinet is drainage. Water at the back is plumbing. Water on the outside is condensation on a cold shell in a humid room. Three locations, three different repairs. On a machine of this build the mechanical parts usually outlast the electronics, so read a refusal as a supervisor decision rather than as a broken component. Work from the cheapest check to the most expensive one and the sealed system stays where it belongs, at the end.
What you actually see
- Water behind the cabinet — A supply fitting if the unit is plumbed, or a displaced drip tray if it is not.
- Beads of water on the outer shell — Condensation on a cold surface in a humid room, often a seal or insulation issue.
- Water only after a manual defrost — Expected behaviour rather than a fault.
- NEAR MISS: water with softening food — Then the cabinet is losing temperature and the cooling page is the one you want.
The causes in order of likelihood
- Defrost drain blocked or frozen — The one to suspect first. It leads on a cabinet of this class because the drain path is long and passes through a freezing zone, which is exactly where meltwater stops. Meltwater backs up into the cabinet base instead of reaching the evaporation tray. The most common leak on any frost-free cabinet.
- Closure admitting humid air — The second suspect. Air in, frost formed, frost melted at the next defrost, and more water than the drain was designed to carry.
- Evaporation tray cracked or displaced — Third, and less common. Common after a cabinet has been moved, and invisible without pulling the unit out.
- Water supply fitting leaking — Fourth, and less common again. Only on plumbed cabinets, and the only leak here that is under pressure continuously.
- Body: These are ordered for this brand and appliance rather than for the appliance class in general, and the ordering is qualitative.
The diagnostic order
- Dry everything and note where water returns first — Inside, behind or outside: three locations with three different causes.
- Pull the cabinet out and check for plumbing and the tray — Do this early because a pressurised leak is the one that damages the room.
- Look for frost inside, which points at air entry — Frost and water together usually mean a seal problem feeding a drain problem.
- Body: The order below is a locating procedure rather than a parts inspection.
What you can do now
- Dry the base and watch the cabinet for a day — Note where and when water reappears; that note is the diagnosis.

- Clear the drain from inside with warm water — Pour gently and watch for it to run through to the tray.

- Reposition or inspect the evaporation tray — Cracks and displacement are visible immediately once the cabinet is pulled out.

- STOP before removing a rear evaporator cover or a pressurised fitting — Close the water supply first and leave the rest to a technician.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water beside a powered appliance is a shock and a slip hazard, so dry the floor and isolate the cabinet before working behind it.
When this becomes a service call
Call when the drain will not clear with warm water, when water returns from behind a plumbed cabinet, or when frost and water keep returning after the seal and the level have been corrected. A pressurised fitting leak is urgent; a drain is not. If the fault is intermittent, write down when it happens before you call.
