The short answer
An ice maker on the CVRUI family that makes nothing, or makes hollow and undersized cubes, is reporting on its water and its temperature before it is reporting on itself. On these models the ranking below puts the module fourth deliberately: three cheaper things fail first.
What you actually observe
- The bin stays empty and the ice maker never cycles — No fill sound, no harvest, no arm movement — the module is not being asked to run, or is not being fed.
- Cubes are hollow, small, or bonded into one lump — Hollow and small point at water volume. A single fused lump points at a freezer that is cycling warm enough to melt and refreeze the bin.
- NEAR MISS — water pools under the freezer drawer instead of reaching the mould — That is a fill-tube or supply-line leak and it belongs on the water-leak page for these models.
Causes, most likely first on the CVRUI family
- Water supply restricted, shut off, or frozen at the fill tube — First on these models and by a wide margin: a saddle valve partly closed, a filter past its life, or a fill tube that has frozen shut all produce a dead ice maker with nothing wrong inside it. The series is recorded with a wildcard, so suffix builds exist that this ranking cannot separate; treat the order as the series average and let what you actually hear and feel override it.
- Freezer not holding a low enough temperature to trigger harvest — Second. The mould thermostat will not release a cycle until the mould is cold enough, so a freezer drifting warm stops ice production before it spoils any food — which is why this symptom is often the first warning of a cooling fault.
- Water inlet valve failed or its screen blocked — Third. The valve is electrically simple and mechanically vulnerable; sediment on the inlet screen throttles it long before it fails outright.
- Ice maker module, thermostat or ejector failed — Fourth. It does happen, but replacing it while the supply is restricted produces a new module that also makes no ice.
- Control board or wiring fault to the ice maker circuit — Last. Rare on these models, and worth suspecting only when the module has power at rest and never receives a command.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the shutoff arm or the on-switch first — It costs nothing and it is the single commonest reason an ice maker in a working refrigerator is idle.
- Put a thermometer in the freezer and confirm it is at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below — Do this before touching water. A warm freezer explains a dead ice maker completely, and it is a different repair.
- Only then force a harvest cycle at the module — Last, because a module tested with a restricted supply tells you nothing you can trust.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply off before you break any line, and expect the line to be under pressure when you do. Do not thaw a frozen fill tube with an open flame or a heat gun near the liner; warm water and patience is the method that does not melt the cabinet.

When to call a technician
Call when the supply is proven good, the freezer is at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and the module still does not cycle — that combination points at the valve, the harness or the control and needs a meter. Call sooner if the ice maker is dead because the freezer is warm, since that is a cooling fault and the ice is only the symptom that showed first. If the supply line is leaking anywhere behind the cabinet, shut the water off and call rather than moving a loaded refrigerator on your own.
