The short answer
Run a cup-of-water test at full power to prove the fault, and check you are not in a convection, grill or low-power mode. If plain water in a known-good cup does not warm, the fault is internal and the oven needs service. Do not open the case to investigate.
What you observe
- The turntable turns and the light is on but nothing heats — The classic no-heat pattern.
- Food heats weakly and unevenly — A power level set low, or a partial fault.
- The fan runs loudly and the cavity stays cold — Common on combination ovens sitting in a convection mode.
- It heated normally until a loud pop — An internal failure, and the end of owner testing.
- NEAR MISS - a cold centre in a large dense dish — Stirring and standing time, not a fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A mode or power level that is not doing what you expect — First, and the only cause here an owner can fix. Combination ovens have convection, grill and combination modes, and a low power level or the wrong mode heats slowly or not at all.
- Food quantity, density and starting temperature — Second. A large dense dish straight from the fridge heats far more slowly than expected, and without stirring the heat never reaches the centre.
- A failed magnetron — Third, and the commonest real fault. The oven behaves completely normally in every visible way and simply produces no heat.
- A failed high-voltage diode, capacitor or transformer — Fourth. Same symptom from the outside, sometimes with a hum or a pop, and equally out of bounds for an owner.
- A control or relay fault — Last. Also internal, and also diagnosed with instruments rather than by inspection.

Safety
A microwave oven contains a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a lethal charge long after the oven is unplugged, so the case must never be opened by an owner - not to look, not to test, not to change a fuse. Never run the oven empty to test it, because with no load the energy has nowhere to go and the oven damages itself. Stop and unplug if you hear a pop or smell burning.
When to call a technician
Call when a cup of water in a microwave-safe container will not warm at full power in the plain microwave mode. That is a clean, repeatable result and it tells a technician the fault is in the high-voltage section. Call at once, without repeating the test, if the failure followed a loud pop or a burning smell. Ask for the part price first, because it often approaches the replacement cost.
