The reading in two sentences
Read E32 as this: an imbalance has been detected, so the spin will not run or will run at reduced speed while the machine tries to redistribute the load. The machine is working correctly and is entirely usable; the load needs redistributing rather than the machine repairing. You can settle whether this is a one-off or a real fault yourself; naming the failed part is not owner work.

| E32 | An imbalance is detected. If the imbalance is too large, the spin cycle will not run or it will reduce its speed to protect your appliance. In addition, the appliance will attempt to improve distribution of the laundry by several spin |
What else is happening when this shows
- The load comes out much wetter than usual — A spin that never reached speed leaves water in the load.
- Repeated attempts to redistribute the load — The control tries several times before it gives up and reports.
- NEAR MISS — it never spins with any load at all — That is a drive or a control fault rather than a balance one, and it is a different page.
What triggers E32, most likely first
- A single heavy item, or a load bunched on one side — It goes first because it is the cause in most cases and it is free to fix: one saturated towel or a duvet that has balled up cannot be distributed however many attempts the machine makes.
- A machine that is not level or rocks on its feet — A cabinet that moves amplifies every small offset, so an ordinary load that would spin on a level machine becomes an imbalance on a rocking one.
- Worn suspension, bearings or dampers — Last of the likely causes: genuine wear lets the drum move more than the design allows, and it is the only cause here that is a repair rather than an adjustment.
The order to work through
- Push the machine at each corner to see whether it rocks — Any movement means the feet need adjusting, and levelling is the single most effective fix here.
- Open the door and redistribute the load by hand — Shake items out and spread them round the drum rather than leaving them where they fell.
- Body: Level the machine second, because a rocking cabinet manufactures imbalance out of loads that would otherwise spin.
The reset and the checks that follow it
- Redistribute the load and restart the spin — Shake items out, spread them round the drum, and remove one heavy item if the load is mixed.
About 10 min
- Redistribute the load, then run a spin-only programme rather than the whole cycle again — Take out one heavy item if the load is mixed: a single saturated item is what usually cannot be balanced.
About 20 min
- Add a few items to a very small load — A single heavy item needs company to balance against; two or three similar items are enough.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE if a balanced load on a level machine still will not spin — Suspension, bearings and the drive are inside the cabinet and are service items.
Before a panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the supply tap before touching a hose, expect standing water when a filter comes out, and never work round the door interlock.
Where an owner check ends
Call if the appliance knocks hard enough to move across the floor, or if there is a rumble or a grinding during the spin that has been getting worse.
Other codes on a Bosch washing machine
What is deliberately not here
Treat this as the general Bosch washing machine reading. It stops short of anything model-specific — part numbers, harness colours, connector layouts and service-mode entry — because those differ by family and a technician takes them from the rating plate rather than from a code. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked from the code index below and is the closer answer.
