The short answer
On a Bosch oven, the first thing to check is a hardened, torn or displaced door gasket. An oven door that does not seal shows up as slow preheats, uneven browning and heat you can feel at the door edge. Bosch ovens are built around European convection with a tight door seal and a sensor the board trusts completely, so a small sensor drift becomes a large baking complaint. It is rarely one dramatic failure - it is a gasket, a hinge or an alignment that has drifted.
What you observe
- Heat you can feel escaping at the door edge — Run a hand near the closed door while the oven is on - the leak is usually findable that way.
- Preheats that have quietly got longer — Heat leaving continuously makes the oven work harder for the same result.
- Browning that is uneven front to back — A door leaking at one corner cools that part of the cavity for the whole bake.
- NEAR MISS - warmth at the vent above the door — Every oven vents hot air deliberately, usually above or behind the door.
Causes, most likely first on Bosch
- A hardened, torn or displaced door gasket — The braided gasket goes hard and brittle, tears at a corner or works out of its clips. Ranked first because it is a consumable living at oven temperature, so it is the part that fails first by design. On Bosch, the board trusts the oven sensor completely, so a small drift in it becomes a large complaint at the food.
- Inner door glass loose or out of position — The inner glass is held by clips and brackets. Ranked second because it changes how the door meets the frame and it shows up as heat at one edge.
- A self-clean latch left partly engaged — The motorised latch used for self-cleaning can stop part-way. Ranked third because it holds the door fractionally out of position and it is free to correct.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a hand round the gasket and look for gaps or hard sections — Any flattened, brittle or missing section is your leak. It comes first because the ranking above puts a hardened, torn or displaced door gasket ahead of everything else on this platform.
- Look at the inner glass for movement or an uneven margin — Glass sitting off-centre in the door is a definite finding.
- Look at the latch position and run a short clean cycle to reset it — A latch that is not fully home is visible and usually clears itself on a cancelled clean cycle.

Let the oven cool completely and switch it off at the breaker before touching the door, the gasket or the hinges - an oven door is heavy and its hinge springs are under real tension. Never remove a door by forcing the hinges: use the hinge locks provided, and get help for the lift. Never run the oven with the gasket removed or with foil packed around the door.
When to call a technician
Call when the hinges have play, the inner glass has moved, or the door will not sit flat, because a door comes apart under spring tension and is not a first repair. A gasket that has simply come out of its clips is the one thing on this list worth trying yourself, with the oven cold.
