The reading in two sentences
Read E06 as this: the control has found a fault in the heating circuit. It may tumble without heating, which dries nothing; stop using it until the heating circuit has been checked. You can settle whether this is a one-off or a real fault yourself; naming the failed part is not owner work.
Error codes
Reference| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| E06 | There is a fault/error detected with the heating circuit. |
What else is happening when this shows
- Heating stopped working from one load to the next — A thermal cut-out opens suddenly rather than fading, which is why it feels abrupt.
- The code appears at the same stage every time — The control has a time limit for reaching temperature, and this is that limit expiring.
- NEAR MISS — the appliance overheats or shuts off hot — That is the opposite fault and a different code; do not treat the two as one.
What triggers E06, most likely first
- A thermal cut-out opened by restricted airflow — First because it is the commonest cause on a dryer and it is a consequence rather than a fault: a blocked filter or exchanger traps heat, the protection device opens to save the machine, and the heating circuit reads as broken.
- An open heating element — The element heats and cools on every load and eventually fails open, which produces exactly the same cold tumble.
- A supply problem under heating load — Last: heating is the heaviest load the appliance draws, so a marginal supply shows up here first and looks like a heating fault.
The order to work through
- Feel whether there is any warmth at all in the drum — Faint heat and no heat point to different halves of the circuit.
- Clear the filter, the housing and the heat exchanger first — A restriction is what opens the protection, so the path is checked before the parts.
- Feel whether there is any heat at all, or none — Weak heat and no heat are two different faults, and this is a free way to tell which you have.
- Body: Ask whether there is weak heat or no heat — a partly working circuit and an open one lead to different measurements.
The reset and the checks that follow it
- Clean every filter and clear every vent on the heat path — A restriction is the commonest cause of a tripped limiter, and clearing it is owner work.
Tools: vacuum, soft brushAbout 20 min
- Clean every air path you can reach, then run a short cycle and feel for heat — Filter rinsed and dried, housing cleared, exchanger cleaned per the manual for your model line.
Tools: vacuum, soft brushAbout 30 min
- Run one full cycle and note where the code lands — The stage matters more than the code. Write it down rather than trusting memory.
About 60 min
- STOP HERE — the element and the cut-out are behind panels — A heating circuit is the highest-current circuit in the appliance and it is service work.
Before a panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never run it with the filter out or the air paths blocked, because lint is combustible. On a gas model, if you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility from outside without switching anything on or off.
Where an owner check ends
Call immediately if you smell scorching, see discoloured wiring at the element, or the breaker trips during the heating stage.
Other codes on a Bosch dryer
What is deliberately not here
Treat this as the general Bosch dryer reading. It stops short of anything model-specific — part numbers, harness colours, connector layouts and service-mode entry — because those differ by family and a technician takes them from the rating plate rather than from a code. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked from the code index below and is the closer answer.
