Bosch Dishwasher E06: AquaStop Door Sensor Circuit Fault
E06 is Bosch's diagnostic code for a failure in the door latch sensor circuit — specifically, the reed switch or microswitch that confirms the door is fully closed and latched. The EGS board will not energize the fill valve or circulation pump unless this sensor reports a secure closure. E06 means the sensor's signal is either absent, intermittent, or contradicts the physical door position.
How the BSH Door Detection Works
Bosch dishwashers use a two-stage door verification:
- Mechanical latch: The door hook engages a spring-loaded catch in the door frame. This physically holds the door shut.
- Electronic confirmation: A reed switch (magnetic sensor) or microswitch detects that the latch has reached full engagement. Only when this electronic signal reaches the EGS board will the cycle begin.
E06 triggers when stage 1 succeeds (door clicks shut) but stage 2 fails (no electronic confirmation). The machine appears to accept the door closing but refuses to start, or stops mid-cycle if the sensor signal drops out.

Diagnosing the Specific Failure
Door Latch Alignment Check
Open the door and examine the latch hook (the protruding metal or plastic tongue on the door). Close the door slowly and watch how the hook enters the striker plate on the tub frame. The hook should enter center and pull straight back without rubbing the top or bottom of the striker opening. Misalignment usually results from rack overloading that pushed the inner door panel slightly — redistributing heavy items on the lower rack and reseating the racks on their tracks often resolves alignment.
Reed Switch Test
The reed switch is located inside the door latch assembly, accessible by removing the inner door panel (T15 Torx screws around the perimeter):
- Disconnect power at the breaker
- Remove the inner door panel to expose the latch mechanism
- Locate the reed switch — a small cylindrical component near the latch magnet
- Set multimeter to continuity mode
- With door open (latch disengaged): switch should read open (no continuity)
- Manually push the latch to the engaged position: switch should close (continuity beeps)
- If the switch does not change state, it has failed. If it changes inconsistently (sometimes beeps, sometimes not), the magnet has weakened or the switch is sticking
Wiring Harness Inspection
The latch switch wires route through the door hinge area where they flex thousands of times over the machine's life. A broken conductor in an intact-looking wire is the second most common cause of E06 after switch failure. Check continuity from the switch connector all the way to the EGS board connector — any dropout indicates a break in the harness.
Common Root Causes
Detergent residue in latch mechanism: Powder detergent or pod residue builds up in the latch cavity, preventing full mechanical engagement. The latch clicks but does not travel the final 2mm needed to bring the magnet close enough to trip the reed switch. Clean the latch cavity with a damp cloth and a thin flat-blade screwdriver wrapped in the cloth.
Warped door gasket: The door gasket (rubber seal around the tub opening) can swell or warp with age, creating resistance that prevents the door from fully seating. Press along the gasket with your fingers — if sections feel significantly thicker or harder than others, the gasket needs replacement.
Failed reed switch (age-related): Reed switches have a finite cycle life (typically 1-2 million actuations). At 5 cycles per day over 10 years, that is ~18,000 cycles — well within spec, but vibration and moisture accelerate failure.
