The short answer
Most no-start complaints on the WAP line resolve to four things: the supply, the door, a held child lock or delay, and a cycle that has already stalled at the fill. This page works them in that order.
What you observe
- NEAR MISS - no start after a power cut — Many machines resume or clear their state oddly after an interruption. Switch off at the wall for a minute before diagnosing.
- The door will not latch firmly — A door that rests closed but does not latch keeps the lock from confirming, and nothing starts until it does.
- NEAR MISS - the cycle starts and stops within a minute — That is a stalled cycle rather than a no-start, and the cycle fault page for this family covers it.
- The display lights but the cycle never begins — The machine has power and is waiting for a condition - a lock, a selection, or a gate it cannot pass.
- No lights, no display, nothing at all — That is supply: socket, plug, fuse or breaker, and it is the shortest branch of this diagnosis.
Likeliest causes first
- Door not latched or the lock not confirming — First on this family: the lock is the gate before every other step, and a door that looks closed but is not latched is the classic version.
- Control board failure — Last, because everything above it produces the same dead machine, and because a board swap on a guess is the most expensive way to be wrong here.
- Mains filter or interference suppressor failed — It presents as a completely dead machine with a live socket, which is why the socket test has to come first to make the finding meaningful.
- Door lock mechanism failed — Distinct from a door that is not latched: here the door closes correctly and the lock still does not report, and that is a part.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the breaker and any fused spur behind the machine — Low in the order because it needs access, but it is the finding that explains a dead machine with a live-looking kitchen.
- Check both taps are open before concluding nothing is happening — A machine waiting for water looks idle from across a room, and this check costs a moment.
- Re-select the programme and press start deliberately — Rules out the selected-but-never-started case, which is far more common than owners expect.
- Look for a child-lock or delay symbol on the display — Free, instant, and it explains an apparently dead machine that is in fact working perfectly.
Before any panel comes off
Safety
Disconnect the plug before servicing, and put a towel and a shallow tray under the filter door. There is always water left in the sump even when the display says the cycle finished.
