The short answer
A oven on a dedicated circuit gives you exactly one free diagnostic: whether the breaker holds. On the HBLP family a breaker that trips immediately, a breaker that trips at the heat stage, and a burning smell with no trip are three different faults with one correct response - isolate, and call.
What you observe on these models
- The breaker trips when the oven calls for heat — The heaviest part of the load, so a marginal connection or a failing element shows there first.

Causes, most likely first on the HBLP family
- Supply connections at the appliance — First on the HBLP family. A large appliance draws a heavy current through a terminal block, and a screw that has loosened heats every time the oven calls for heat. It is the most common finding and it is exactly what a move disturbs.
- Heating element breaking down under load — Second. An element that has degraded can pass current to earth once it is hot, which gives the trip that only happens at the heat stage.

Check in this order, and why

- Second: note when it trips — Immediately at switch-on, at the moment heat is called for, or part way through a long cook. Those three point at different faults.
- Third: note which mode — A trip on one mode only names the element that mode uses, and it is the most valuable thing you can tell a technician.
- Fourth: look, do not touch — Scorch marks, discolouration or a smell at the connection area behind or beside the appliance. Report what you see; do not open the connection.

A standard household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A, and a large appliance circuit is typically 30 A or higher, which is enough energy that a loose connection can start a fire before anything trips.
