The short answer
A Bosch WTW-series dryer that will not start usually has a reason that costs nothing to fix, and on this platform one of those reasons does not exist on a vented dryer at all: a ventless condensing dryer will refuse to begin with a full water tank. this is a mid-range designation, with the self-reporting the earliest ones lack. The panel here can also be driven from an app, so a cycle can have been started or held from somewhere other than the machine.
What you observe
- An indicator is lit that was not lit before — On this platform that is usually the tank or the filter telling you something.
- A click when start is pressed and nothing after it — The machine accepted the press and then found an interlock open.
- It starts and stops within seconds — An interlock that closes and then opens again, most often the door.
- NEAR MISS - the drum turns but the cycle time never moves — That is a running machine with a display or a sensing problem rather than a no-start, and it belongs on the cycle-fault page.
Likeliest causes here
- The door not latched — A door that looks shut and is not is the commonest no-start on any dryer, and this one is no exception. First on this family, and for a reason that belongs to the platform: it takes two seconds and it is right more often than everything below it combined.
- Child lock, delayed start or a held programme — Each of these leaves a machine that is awake and idle, which is easy to read as broken. Second here, and close enough behind the first to be checked in the same pass: this designation carries more of these modes than the earlier ones.
- The lower access flap or the filter not seated — The machine checks that its own air path is closed before it runs. Ranked third on these models: it almost always follows maintenance, which is the clue.
- The condensate tank full — A condensing machine with nowhere to put its water will not begin a cycle it cannot finish. Fourth here. Thirty seconds to exclude.
- The supply - breaker, outlet or plug — A dark panel is a supply symptom far more often than a board failure. Last, and the ranking is the point: a standard household branch circuit is rated 15 A or 20 A, and both ends of it are worth checking.
- Where this ranking departs from the brand-generic page — The cause that moves is the door not latched. It leads on this family because the heat here comes from a refrigerant circuit rather than from an element. That is a property of the platform rather than of the brand, which is why the page above this one cannot rank it the same way.
Check in this order
- Push the door until it latches, then push again — Look for a sleeve or a corner of a sheet caught in the seal, which holds it a hair off and defeats the catch. It leads on these models because the construction puts it within reach before anything else on the list.
- Hold the lock key down until the display changes — Clear any delayed start while you are there, and check nothing has been set from an app.
- Press the lower flap shut and re-seat the filter — If this started right after a clean, this is the answer.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a machine that appears dead is no proof that it is. A dryer on a standard household branch circuit rated 15 A or 20 A that trips its breaker again after a reset is reporting a fault and must not be held in.
When to call
The door, the tank, the filter and flap, the panel lock-outs, the outlet and the breaker are all owner ground on these models, and they cover most no-start calls between them. The line is the door switch: a door that is definitely home and still ignored needs a meter on the switch and on the board supply.
