The short answer
On the YCD models an ice fault is a water problem, a temperature problem or a jam. The table below carries a single model code for this family, so everything on this page describes one build: the panel layout and the part positions do not shift under you.
What you observe on these models
- The ice mould is empty and dry — No water arrived. The supply, the fill valve or a reservoir that was never filled — not the ice maker itself.
- The mould has water in it that never freezes solid — The freezing section is not cold enough to finish. That is a cooling fault wearing an ice-maker costume.
- Ice is forming but comes out hollow or in small pieces — Short fill: water is arriving but not enough of it, usually a restricted supply or a partly frozen fill tube.
- A slab of ice in the storage bin and nothing new — Cubes melted and refroze together, which means the section warmed at some point.
- The maker is silent and the arm or switch is in the off position — Many units stop when the shut-off arm is lifted or the switch is off.
- Water on the floor of the cabinet under the maker — The fill is overshooting or the tube is icing and diverting. It belongs with the leak page for this family as well as this one.
Causes, most likely first on the YCD family
- The shut-off arm or switch is in the off position — Free to check and the first thing to rule out, because it costs nothing and explains a completely silent maker.
- Water is not reaching the mould — Next, and most often unresolved installation: the line was never opened fully, or the unit uses a reservoir that nobody has filled.
- The freezing section is not cold enough to complete a harvest — If the mould holds water that never sets, stop working on the ice maker and read the cooling page for this family instead.
- The fill tube is frozen — Ranked here because it is easy to clear with warm air and very likely to come back if the underlying fill or temperature problem is not fixed too.
- The ice maker module or its valve has failed — Last, by elimination only — and on a compact cooler worth pricing against the value of the cabinet before the work is booked.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the arm or switch first — It costs nothing. A lifted shut-off arm or an off switch stops production completely and looks exactly like a failed module.
- Look in the mould — Dry means no water arrived. Water that has not set means the section is not cold enough.
- Follow the water path back — Open the supply valve fully, check the line behind the cabinet for a kink, and fill the reservoir if the unit uses one.
- Thaw the fill tube with warm air — A hair dryer on a low setting, unit unplugged, until water runs freely again.
- Clear any jam by hand — Unplug first, lift out the bin, and free bridged cubes with your fingers or warm water.
Models in the YCD family — One code stands for this family, so the table is a single line and there is nothing to cross-check beyond it.

Safety
Unplug the unit before you reach into the ice maker or thaw a fill tube — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never use a knife, a screwdriver or any metal tool to break ice free: the mould, the tube and the sensor behind them are easily punctured, and a punctured line is the end of the cabinet.
When to call a technician
Call when water reaches the mould, the section is cold, nothing is jammed, and the maker still does not cycle: that leaves the module or the valve, and both are technician parts on these units.
