The short answer
On the MFH models a failure to drain is usually one of three things: something in the pump filter, a hose that is kinked or set at the wrong height, or a standpipe that is itself blocked. All three are owner territory and none of them needs a panel off.
What you observe
- You can hear the pump running but nothing leaves — The pump has power and is turning against a blockage, or its impeller is fouled.
- The cycle ends with water still in the drum — The clearest form of the fault. The machine has finished its timed attempt and given up.
- The standpipe or sink backs up while the machine empties — The restriction is in the house drain rather than in the machine, which is a distinction worth making before any part is bought.
- Nothing at all happens at the drain step — No pump sound points past the filter at the pump itself or its supply, which is a different half of the list.
Causes, most likely first
- A blocked pump filter — First on this family and by some distance. The filter is the last thing before the pump, the drum lets everything through to it, and on a compact machine it fills quickly.
- A drum packed too full — A packed drum holds water in the load and delivers it to the pump slower than the drain step allows, so the cycle ends with the drum wet and the machine blamed.
- A kinked, trapped or badly routed drain hose — Second. A portable machine gets moved, and the hose behind it gets pushed against a wall or folded over itself.
- A blocked standpipe or house drain — The machine is healthy and the restriction is downstream. The give-away is another fixture backing up at the same time, and the repair is not an appliance repair at all.
Check in this order
- Isolate the machine, then open the pump filter with a tray ready — The leading cause on this family, and the only part of the drain path designed for an owner to open.
- Run a tap or flush the standpipe and watch it clear — Settles whether the restriction is the machine or the house before any part is bought.
- Start a drain or spin and listen for the pump — Running against a blockage and not running at all are two different halves of this list.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never put a finger to a pump impeller on a machine that is still connected, because a held cycle can restart the pump the moment power returns.
