The short answer

What you observe
- A cycle that takes far longer than it used to — Extended fill or repeated balance attempts. Nothing has failed outright; a step is being retried.
- It stops as soon as the lid or door is touched — The interlock is doing its job, and a marginal one will stop a cycle without anyone touching anything.
- The cycle stops and the machine sits with water in it — A drain or a level step that has not completed.
- It restarts a step repeatedly — The machine is not seeing the condition it needs to move on, so it tries the step again.
Causes, most likely first
- Water arriving too slowly, or not at all — First on this family. A slow fill leaves the machine waiting for a level it never reaches, so it extends the step instead of moving on.
- A marginal lid or door interlock — The machine stops the moment it cannot prove the drum is closed. An interlock that is starting to fail does that intermittently, which reads as a random mid-cycle stop.
- A slow or blocked drain — Second. The machine will not advance to a spin until the water has gone, so a restricted pump filter or a drain hose that has been pushed too far into the standpipe stalls the cycle with a full drum.
- A load the machine cannot balance — Third, and the reason a spin step repeats. A small drum concentrates an unbalanced load, so the machine retries and eventually abandons the spin rather than shaking itself apart.
- The control board or a cycle selector — Last. Boards do fail, but almost every fault that looks like a board on this family turns out to be a step the machine could not finish.
Check in this order
- Check where the drain hose enters the standpipe and how high it sits — An installation that lets the machine siphon gives a fill step that never ends, and it is invisible unless you look for it.
- Check both taps are fully open and the hoses are not kinked — Second because the fill step is the leading cause here and this takes moments.
- Isolate the machine for some minutes and start a fresh cycle — Last of the free checks.
- Retry with a small, evenly distributed load — Separates a balance fault from a mechanical one without opening anything.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not drain a stalled machine by lowering the drain hose into a bucket while it is still powered - isolate it first, because the pump can start at any point in a held cycle.
