The short answer
A cycle that never finishes on a BTLW model is nearly always a fill, a drain or a balance step that has not completed. The machine repeats or extends the step rather than failing outright, which is why an owner sees a long cycle rather than an error.
What you observe
- The panel shows a fault indication and holds — A displayed fault is the machine having given up on a step rather than a random failure.
- It sits at the start and never fills — Supply side. The machine cannot begin, so nothing downstream is worth checking yet.
- It stops as soon as the lid or door is touched — The interlock is doing its job, and a marginal one will stop a cycle without anyone touching anything.
- It restarts a step repeatedly — The machine is not seeing the condition it needs to move on, so it tries the step again.
Causes, most likely first
- Water arriving too slowly, or not at all — First on this family. A slow fill leaves the machine waiting for a level it never reaches, so it extends the step instead of moving on.
- A marginal lid or door interlock — The machine stops the moment it cannot prove the drum is closed. An interlock that is starting to fail does that intermittently, which reads as a random mid-cycle stop.
- A slow or blocked drain — Second. The machine will not advance to a spin until the water has gone, so a restricted pump filter or a drain hose that has been pushed too far into the standpipe stalls the cycle with a full drum.
- Drain hose height or a siphoning standpipe — A drain arranged wrongly lets the machine empty as it fills, so it never reaches level and the fill step never ends. It is an installation cause rather than a fault, and it is common on a portable machine that gets re-sited.
Check in this order
- Open the pump filter and clear it — A restricted drain is the second-ranked cause, and the filter is the one part of the drain path an owner can reach without tools.
- Press the lid or door firmly closed and repeat the cycle — A cycle that completes when the lid is held is an interlock fault, which is a clean result.
- Check both taps are fully open and the hoses are not kinked — Second because the fill step is the leading cause here and this takes moments.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not drain a stalled machine by lowering the drain hose into a bucket while it is still powered - isolate it first, because the pump can start at any point in a held cycle.

When to call
Call when the supply is proven, the pump filter is clear, the drain is arranged properly, the load is small and even, and the machine still stops at the same step. That is the point at which the fault is a valve, a pressure sensor, an interlock or the board, and all four are behind a panel.
