The short answer
A leaking URBC unit is usually telling you its drain path is blocked or its door is not sealing, not that a pipe has failed. The brand-generic page treats the supply line as a leading cause; on this family the condensate route is shorter, tighter and far more likely to block, so it comes first.
What you observe
- Water at the back, near the base — The tray, its position, or a connection behind the cabinet.
- Damp or wet food at the back of a shelf — Condensate running down the rear wall before it reaches the drain.
- Standing water inside, under the bottom shelf or drawer — Condensate that has not reached the drain at all. This is the commonest form on a compact cabinet.
- A stale smell alongside the water — Standing water in the base has been there long enough to go stale, which tells you the drain has been blocked for some time.
Causes, most likely first
- A blocked condensate drain — First on this family by a wide margin. The drain hole in the cabinet floor is small, it sits where crumbs and label paper collect, and once it closes the water has nowhere to go but forward and out.
- The cabinet standing out of level — A unit tipped forward runs its condensate to the front lip instead of to the drain, and one tipped sideways pours the tray out at the back. This is a real cause on a platform light enough to be moved and re-sited often.
- A door seal that is letting warm air in — Second. Warm humid air reaching a cold cabinet condenses on everything it touches, and on a compact unit with a light door a seal that has taken a set produces a steady supply of water rather than an occasional bead.
- A cracked drain channel or tray — Last. Plastic that has been frozen, thawed and knocked for years eventually splits, and the water then appears somewhere with no obvious path to it.
Check in this order
- Look at the rear wall inside for frost — Only after the drain is clear.
- Find where the water starts, not where it ends — Dry everything, put paper down at the front and the back, and see which wets first.
- Put a level on the top of the cabinet, front to back and side to side — Early, because it is free, it is often wrong after a move, and it defeats a drain that is otherwise clear.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Empty the cabinet before you move it: a compact unit full of stock is heavier than it looks and the floor under it is wet.

When to call
Call when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level, the seal grips and water still appears. That combination points at a cracked channel, a failed fitting or a frost problem with a cause of its own, and all three are behind a panel.
