The short answer
A Black+Decker EC microwave with a door problem gets checked visually and no further. The hooks, the hinge and the seal surfaces are all on the outside and are all you may touch; the interlocks behind them are not adjustable, not repairable and not to be bypassed. If the oven has ever run with the door open, stop using it now and unplug it. What separates EC units here is visible without a tool: a touch panel rather than a dial, or nothing of the sort on the other build.
What you observe on these models
- The door needs a push or a slam to latch — It usually arrives gradually rather than overnight.
- The light and the fan carry on as the door swings — Nothing else on this page matters until that is dealt with.

- The hinge has dropped or the door is bent — It ranks high because a sagging door loads the hooks and turns one fault into two.
- The seal surfaces are soiled or coated — It is placed here because it is the one cause an owner can put right, and it costs a damp cloth and two minutes.
- An interlock switch has failed — It is ranked here because the diagnosis is a technician one, not because it is rare.
- Physical damage to the door panel or the seal line — It comes last on the list and first in what it means: the oven is out of service until assessed.
Check in this order, and why
- Check whether it runs with the door open, or shows scorching — Either of those means unplug it and stop using it; nothing further on this page applies.
- Wipe the seal line and the face it closes against — Baked-on splashes hold a door open a fraction and are the one cause you can fix outright.
- Inspect the hooks and the catch visually — Visual only — nothing is adjusted or levered here.
- Check the door for sag and for square — An even gap all round is right; a wedge-shaped one is a hinge that has dropped.

Never open the cabinet of a microwave oven. The high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a lethal charge long after the machine is unplugged, and nothing behind that cover is an owner part on any model. Unplug the oven before cleaning anything, leave every door interlock exactly as it is, and do not run the oven empty.
When to call a technician
The condition is whether a damp cloth fixes it. If the door latches properly once the seal surfaces are clean, nothing else needs doing. If it still needs force, sits crooked, or the oven has run with the door open, unplug it and book it: the cabinet is never opened by an owner, so there is no next step you can take yourself.
