The short answer
This page routes by where the water first shows itself, because a leak at the door and a leak from underneath share almost no causes. One is a sealing problem you can see and often fix; the other is a hose, a clamp or a pump seal under the tub. On a Big Chill dishwasher, that reordering puts a hose or clamp under the machine at the top.
What you are actually seeing
- The entries at the end belong to a different fault and send you elsewhere.
- Water running down the outside of the door.
- Drips from the underside of the door at the bottom corners.
- Water pooling under the machine but never at the front.
- If instead you see this: Condensation on the door front in a cold kitchen — that is room humidity, not a leak.
Ranked causes on a Big Chill dishwasher
- Framed by location, the under-the-machine causes are ranked first, because water that never appears at the door has already ruled out the door. Settle one observable question before you use this ranking — retro-trimmed front versus a custom or panel-ready front: one finished front with the brand hardware fitted to it is a factory retro door, while fasteners along the inner edge of the door mean a separate panel has been added. Look at the door face and its edges.
- A hose or clamp under the machine — Why: The fill hose, the drain hose and their clamps sit under the tub where a slow weep never reaches the front of the machine and instead soaks the floor under the cabinet.
- The pump or its seal — Why: A worn pump seal drips only while the pump runs, which is why the puddle appears during the cycle and not after it.
- The machine is not level — Why: A tub tilted forward carries its water to the door instead of to the sump, and the seal was never meant to hold water at that level.
- Overfilling — Why: A fill valve that does not close fully, or a float that is stuck down, puts more water in the tub than the door was designed to hold back.
- The door gasket — Why: A gasket that has hardened, torn at a corner or come out of its channel lets a jet of water past on every fill.
- The wrong detergent, or too much of it — Why: Hand dish soap or an overdose of detergent produces suds that climb out past the seal.

Before you start
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Nothing below asks you to put a meter on live terminals, and nothing below asks you to defeat a door switch or an interlock — those exist to cut power to something that would otherwise hurt you. If the plug, the cord or the outlet is warm, discoloured or smells hot, stop there and have the circuit looked at before you use the dishwasher again.
When to stop and call a technician
The line is whether the next step needs live testing, sealed-system access or a part you cannot verify. Call for anything under the trim that needs the door skin separated, and anything involving the sealed motor, or when:
the leak is under the machine rather than at the door the leak survives a correct detergent dose and an intact, clean, well-seated gasket water is reaching an electrical connection or the outlet
