The short answer
On the Big Chill DWT dishwasher a machine that will not begin a cycle is usually a setting or a lock holding the machine rather than a fault at all. What you observe
- No lights, no sound, nothing at all — Supply side: outlet, plug, breaker or the cord itself.
- The panel lights but the cycle never begins — The machine is alive and is refusing.
- It starts, runs briefly and stops again — Something is failing a check part-way in — most often fill, which the machine times and abandons quietly.
- The door will not latch firmly — A latch that does not pull home stops everything, and on a machine that has been moved recently it is the single most likely cause.
- NEAR MISS — it runs but leaves the dishes dirty — That is a cleaning fault rather than a start fault, and the cleaning page is the one that will help.
Causes, most likely first on the DWT family
- Control lock, delay start and programme selection — First on this family — the DWT table lists one model — and a flat touch panel is easily locked by a wipe of a cloth or set to a delay by a passing hand. Everything lights, nothing runs, and no part is faulty.

Before you open anything

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A machine that trips its protection repeatedly is telling you something, and it must not simply be reset over and over while you investigate.

When to call a technician
Call when power at the outlet is proven, the water is on, the door latches firmly and the panel still will not accept a programme — that is a latch switch or a control and it needs the door or the console opened. Call immediately if the machine trips a breaker or a protective device when it starts: repeated resets on a tripping circuit are not a diagnosis.
