The short answer
A Best Appliance BAMFC washer that leaks is usually leaking at a hose, at the door seal or through overfoaming rather than through the tub. On this family the fill hoses and the door gasket account for most of it, and the timing of the leak within the cycle names the source.
What an owner actually sees
- Water at the front edge during the wash — The door gasket, or foam. Look for a wet line on the inside of the door before condemning the seal.
- Foam at the front edge late in the cycle — Overdosed detergent rather than a failed seal. Run one cycle with none at all to confirm.
- Water at the rear corners only while the machine fills — Inlet hoses or their connections. Nothing downstream is implicated.
- NEAR MISS — the machine also will not drain — A washer that leaks and holds water is overfilling or backing up, which is a drainage fault first. Clear the drainage and the overflow goes with it.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Door gasket dirty, torn or holding debris — First on this family for front-loaders. The gasket collects hair, lint and small items in its lower fold, and anything trapped there holds the seal open just enough to let water past during the wash.
- Detergent overdosing producing foam — Second, and free to eliminate. A high-efficiency machine uses little water, so detergent dosed for an older machine foams over a sound seal.
- Fill hose, washer or connection failed — Third by frequency and first by urgency. These are under mains pressure permanently, and a failure releases water continuously rather than dripping.
- Drain hose loose at the machine or at the standpipe — Fourth. It only shows during the drain step, which is why it is so often missed by an inspection done with the machine cold.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Dry everything and run one cycle with paper under the front and both rear corners — Watch which paper gets wet and at which step. This single observation outperforms any inspection. The BAMFC family is a single model number, so everything on this page applies to it without qualification.
- 2. Run a cycle with no detergent at all — If the leak disappears, it was foam. Skipping this is how sound door gaskets get replaced. A single-model family means the access described here applies to your appliance without reservation.
- 3. Clean the gasket fold and check it for tears — Pull the lower fold open, clear hair, lint and coins, and run a finger round looking for a split. This is the leading cause on a front-loader. Leave this until the cheaper checks are settled.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water near a powered appliance is the real hazard: dry the floor before you kneel on it, and if water has reached a receptacle or a lead, switch the circuit off at the panel first. Shut both supply valves before disturbing any fill hose — those are under mains pressure at all times.

Owner fix or service call
Call when the gasket is clean and sound, detergent is eliminated and every accessible connection is dry under load, because what remains is the tub seal, the bellows and the pump seal, and all of those need the machine opened. Call immediately for a wet patch present with the machine idle — that is a supply hose under pressure and it does not wait. Shut both valves before making the call.
