The short answer
A Best Appliance BAMFC dryer that tumbles without drying is usually a venting problem before it is a heating problem. On this family a restricted duct is the leading cause by a wide margin, and it is also the cause that destroys the heating components that get blamed for it.
What an owner actually sees
- The load is damp after a full cycle and the drum feels humid — Moisture is not leaving the machine. This is the airflow signature and it is the most common presentation.
- Little or no airflow at the outside vent while the machine runs — The duct is restricted. Check the flap outside is actually opening as well as the duct itself.
- The drum tumbles but the air is cold — The heating circuit rather than the airflow.
- NEAR MISS — the drum does not turn at all — A dryer that heats but does not tumble, or does nothing at all, has a belt, motor or control fault instead.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Vent duct restricted or blocked with lint — First on this family and first by a very large margin. Lint accumulates over months, airflow falls gradually, drying times stretch, and eventually the machine overheats and protects itself.
- Lint screen loaded or coated with fabric-softener film — Second, and free. A screen that looks clean can still be sealed by a transparent film from dryer sheets.
- Thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat opened — Third, and almost always a consequence rather than a cause. These parts open because the machine overheated, and it overheated because of causes one and two.
- Heating element failed, or on a gas build a weak igniter or closed valve — Fourth. The tell is cold air with good airflow.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Clean the lint screen and test it with running water — Water that pools on the screen means a softener film is sealing it. This is the cheapest step on the page and it is skipped constantly. The BAMFC family is a single model number, so everything on this page applies to it without qualification.
- 2. Run the machine and check the airflow at the outside vent — Strong warm air means the duct is clear. Weak or no airflow, or a flap that never opens, names your fault immediately. A single-model family means the access described here applies to your appliance without reservation.
- 3. Disconnect and inspect the duct along its whole run — Look for crushed flexible duct behind the machine, accumulated lint at the elbows and a blocked outside flap. This is the step that actually fixes most of these machines. Leave this until the cheaper checks are settled.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Lint is the fire hazard here: a machine running behind a blocked duct overheats by design intent, and the fuses that protect it are consumable.

Owner fix or service call
Call once the lint screen and the whole duct run are genuinely clear and the air is still cold, because the remaining candidates — element, thermostats, igniter, gas valve — need a meter and the panels off. Call immediately, without further use, if the machine smells of hot lint, if the cabinet is hot to the touch, or if a thermal fuse has already been replaced once and has opened again. Clearing the screen and the duct is owner work and fixes the majority of these machines.
