The short answer
Ice that will not form properly in a Beko upright refrigerator is a freezer-drawer temperature problem far more often than a mechanism problem, because on most of these cabinets there is no icemaker at all. An overfilled drawer that cannot close, a blocked rear grille and a warm setting account for most cases, and all three are free to correct.
What you observe
- Trays take far longer than overnight to freeze — The drawer is close to freezing rather than well below it.
- Cubes come out cloudy, soft or fused together — Slow freezing, repeated partial thawing, or both.
- The drawer will not close flush — An overfilled basket holding the drawer proud lets warm air in continuously.
- NEAR MISS — nothing in the freezer is properly frozen — Then this is a cooling failure and ice is simply its first visible sign.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- An overfilled drawer that cannot close — First on this platform, and the cause owners least expect: a drawer standing a few millimetres proud admits warm air all day, and the tray at the front of that drawer is the first thing to suffer.
- Packaging against the rear grille — Second. On a frost-free cabinet the cold arrives as moving air, so a bag pressed against the grille starves the drawer locally even while the cabinet's sensor reads a correct temperature.
- A setting that is too warm for ice — Third: a freezer set at the warm end of its range will keep food acceptably and still make ice slowly and badly. The safe line is zero Fahrenheit, minus eighteen Celsius.
- Tray placement and fill level — Fourth and genuinely common: a brimming tray on a wire shelf in moving air freezes far more slowly than a shallow one sitting flat on a solid surface.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator before removing any interior panel or grille — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip or lever ice out of a tray well or off the freezer liner with a blade: the tubing behind the liner is thin and a puncture ends the cabinet. Treat moving a tall cabinet as a two-person job.
When to call a technician
Call when the drawer closes flush, the grille is clear, the freezer is set cold, and trays still will not freeze solid overnight. That means the compartment is not reaching freezing temperature, which points at the defrost system, the sensor or the sealed system. Call sooner if food elsewhere in the freezer has also softened, because then the cabinet has a cooling fault rather than an ice fault.
