The short answer
A Beko microwave that will not start is usually not getting power, not accepting the door as closed, or waiting for a start press after a programme was entered. All three are checked in a minute from outside the oven. Anything beyond that is behind the cabinet, where a high-voltage capacitor makes owner work genuinely dangerous.
What you observe
- The display is dark and nothing responds — No power reaching the oven at all.
- The display lights but pressing start does nothing — Power is present and a condition is not satisfied.
- It beeps at the start press and refuses — A deliberate refusal, usually the door or a child lock.
- NEAR MISS — it starts and runs but the food stays cold — That is a heating failure and it belongs on its own page.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- No power at the outlet — First, because a microwave is often on a kitchen circuit shared with high-draw appliances, and a trip goes unnoticed until something else fails to work. The dark-display case is almost always this.
- The door is not being accepted as closed — Second: the interlock chain has to be satisfied before the oven will start, and a worn latch hook or debris in the frame stops that while the door looks and feels shut.
- A child lock or an unfinished programme entry — Third, and the most easily missed. Many panels lock after a long press, and a time entered without a start press simply sits there doing nothing.
- A failed touch panel, membrane or control board — Last. A panel with some keys working and others dead is the classic sign, and it is a service call rather than an owner repair.

- Check the outlet with another appliance — It settles the dark-display case instantly.
- Open the door and close it firmly, then press start — The interlocks are the commonest cause of a lit oven that will not run.
- Look for a lock indicator and try the panel keys in turn — A child lock or a dead key explains many refusals.
- Stop at the cabinet — There is no safe owner access past the cavity on a microwave.

Never defeat a door interlock to make an oven run, and never use an oven whose door is dented, loose or will not latch. If the breaker trips when the oven is plugged in, leave the circuit off and stop using the appliance.
When to call a technician
Call when the outlet is proven good, the door closes and latches cleanly, there is no child lock, and the oven still will not start. The remaining suspects are the interlock switches, the touch membrane and the control board, all inside the cabinet. On a countertop oven, ask the part price first, because a control board repair frequently approaches the price of a replacement.
