An ice maker on the BFBF line that has stopped producing is usually being starved of water or held by its own arm rather than failing outright. These cabinets feed the maker from a single inlet valve through a line that runs behind the cabinet, so a closed tap, a kinked line or a frozen fill tube stops production while the rest of the appliance works perfectly.
What owners actually see
- The maker cycles but the bin stays empty — Across the whole of this line, cubes are being harvested and are jamming or melting, which points at bin position or a freezer that is not cold enough.
- Cube size shrank over several weeks before production stopped — A gradual flow restriction, which points at the tap, the line or a tube beginning to ice rather than at the module.

Ranked causes on this line
- A frozen fill tube — First on the BFBF line because the tube delivers water into a compartment held below freezing, so any slow fill or dribble freezes in place and blocks every later cycle. It is also the cause that clears with no part at all. Every model in this family behaves this way.
- The shut-off arm held up — Second because it is free to check and because a package leaning against the arm produces a maker that appears completely dead while being in perfect order. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- A closed or restricted supply tap — The line is usually teed off a cold supply under a sink, where it is easily closed during other work and rarely reopened. The maker then cycles dry and eventually stops.
- Cubes fusing in the bin and jamming the harvest — A bin of partly melted and refrozen cubes locks together, and the maker stalls against the mass rather than failing electrically.
- A failed mould heater or thermostat in the maker — Last because it needs the module out to confirm and because a slab of ice in the mould has the same appearance whatever caused it. The distinguishing evidence is whether cycles resume after the slab is cleared.
The diagnostic order
- Check the shut-off arm is down and nothing is leaning on it — First on the BFBF line because it costs nothing and because a package against the arm is the single most common reason a maker appears dead. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Look for a slab or a plug of ice in the mould — Second: clearing it by hand restores cycling immediately and tells you whether the fault recurs, which is the real diagnostic.
- Find the supply tap and confirm it is fully open — Third, because it is usually under a sink and is closed during unrelated plumbing work more often than anyone expects. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
- Empty the bin completely and break up any fused mass — A locked bin stalls the harvest mechanically, and clearing it is both the test and the fix.
