When the BFBD line stops making ice, work the water path before the ice maker itself. The platform puts the shut-off arm, the fill tube and the inlet valve in series, and any one of them halts the cycle. Two of the three are visible from inside the freezer without a tool.
The observations that matter
- The bin is full of fused cubes rather than loose ones — On each of the models covered here, cubes that partly melted and refroze, which is a freezer temperature question rather than a production one.
- Ice is produced but tastes of the freezer — Old cubes sublimating in the bin, which is storage rather than production and clears when the bin is emptied.
- The maker cycles audibly and no water arrives — The harvest is firing and the fill is not, which places the fault squarely in the water path. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
- A ridge of ice has formed at the back of the freezer — Water spraying past the mould from a misaligned or partly frozen fill tube, which names the cause precisely.
- NEAR MISS: water is pooling on the freezer floor — That is a drain or fill overflow question, and the water-leak page for this family is the better starting point.
The causes in likelihood order
- A frozen fill tube — First on the BFBD line because the tube delivers water into a compartment held below freezing, so any slow fill or dribble freezes in place and blocks every later cycle. It is also the cause that clears with no part at all. The same is true of each model covered here.
- The shut-off arm held up — Second because it is free to check and because a package leaning against the arm produces a maker that appears completely dead while being in perfect order. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- A closed or restricted supply tap — The line is usually teed off a cold supply under a sink, where it is easily closed during other work and rarely reopened. The maker then cycles dry and eventually stops.
- Cubes fusing in the bin and jamming the harvest — A bin of partly melted and refrozen cubes locks together, and the maker stalls against the mass rather than failing electrically.
- A failed mould heater or thermostat in the maker — Last because it needs the module out to confirm and because a slab of ice in the mould has the same appearance whatever caused it. The distinguishing evidence is whether cycles resume after the slab is cleared.
The order to work in
- Check the shut-off arm is down and nothing is leaning on it — First on the BFBD line because it costs nothing and because a package against the arm is the single most common reason a maker appears dead. Every model in this family behaves this way.
- Look for a slab or a plug of ice in the mould — Second: clearing it by hand restores cycling immediately and tells you whether the fault recurs, which is the real diagnostic.
- Find the supply tap and confirm it is fully open — Third, because it is usually under a sink and is closed during unrelated plumbing work more often than anyone expects. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Look for a ridge of ice behind the mould — Water spraying past the mould names a misaligned or partly frozen fill tube without any dismantling at all.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the cabinet at the socket before working on the maker, and close the supply tap first. Never clear ice with a sharp tool: the mould and the fill tube are both thin-walled, and a puncture turns a free fix into a part replacement.

The service boundary
The line on these models is the water path: everything in it is an owner check, and the electrical side of the maker is not. Call immediately if water is running continuously into the freezer, since that is a valve fault and it will keep going. That is true of every model this family spans.
