The short answer
Before diagnosing a Beko BBM refrigerator that has gone warm, find out how your cabinet is cooled. Bottom-mount cabinets are built two ways - one evaporator in the freezer feeding the fridge through a duct, or two separate evaporators cooling each compartment independently - and the same symptom means opposite things on the two designs. The cabinet tells you which it is in about a minute.
What you observe
- Fresh-food compartment warm, freezer still cold — On a ducted design an airflow fault; on a two-evaporator design a fault in the fridge circuit itself.
- Both compartments warming at a similar rate — The condenser, the defrost system or the sealed system - not a compartment problem.
- A light even frost on the fridge rear wall that never clears — On a two-evaporator cabinet, the fridge coil is icing and its defrost is not keeping up.
- Food at the back freezing while the door shelves stay warm — Air reaching the first shelf and going no further: circulation rather than refrigeration.
- NEAR MISS - silent and warming — Nothing is running, which is a supply or start-relay fault rather than a cooling fault.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Condenser starved of air at the back — First on a freestanding bottom-mount, because these cabinets are routinely pushed hard against a wall and the condenser has no other air supply.
- Door gasket not sealing on the taller compartment — Second. The fresh-food door on a bottom-mount is the tallest panel on the cabinet, and a racked door grips at the top and stands off at the bottom.
- Frost blocking the duct, on ducted cabinets — Third, and only meaningful once you have established that your cabinet is ducted.
- Fridge evaporator icing, on two-evaporator cabinets — Third on the other design: the fridge coil ices and its own defrost cannot clear it.
- Stalled defrost or sealed-system fault — Last. Both need instruments and both are less common than the causes above.
Check in this order, and why
- Look at the fridge rear wall for a vent or a frost pattern — First, because it tells you which cooling design you have and therefore which list applies.
- Read the temperature in both compartments — Second. One warm or both warm routes the diagnosis down different branches.
- Pull the cabinet clear of the wall and leave it a day — Third, and free. A condenser breathing its own warm air produces this with nothing broken.
- Test the fresh-food door gasket top and bottom with paper — Fourth. Grip at the top and release at the bottom is a racked door rather than a worn seal.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip ice off an evaporator or out of a duct with a knife or screwdriver - the tubing is soft aluminium and a puncture ends the cabinet. Do not use a heat gun inside the liner to speed a defrost.

When to call a technician
Call once the cabinet has air, the gaskets seal and a manual defrost has restored cooling only for the ice to return, because repeated icing is a heater, thermostat or control fault. Call immediately if you see oil at the compressor or smell burning.
