The short answer
A Bangson compact dryer that is dead or clicks without tumbling is most often a supply problem or a door that is not latching, not a failed motor. Check the outlet and the door catch before anything else — both take a minute and no tools. A motor or control fault is real but sits last for a reason.
What you observe
- Nothing at all happens when you press start — No light, no click, no drum movement.
- The panel lights but the drum does not move — Power is reaching the board and something downstream is stopping it.
- It hums for a moment then stops — A motor trying to turn against a load, or a start winding that is not helping it.
- NEAR MISS — it starts and stops mid-cycle — That is a cycle fault rather than a start fault, and it belongs on the page for a dryer ending its cycle early.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- The outlet, lead or breaker — First on this platform because a compact dryer is portable and gets moved: shared outlets, extension leads and tripped breakers account for most dead machines. A dryer that worked in one room and not another has told you the answer already.
- The door catch or door switch — Second: compact doors are light and the catch is small, so a slightly proud latch or a worn switch plunger leaves the machine convinced the door is open. The panel will often light normally while this is true.
- A jammed drum or belt — Third, and the usual cause of a hum without motion. An item wedged between the drum and the front bulkhead stalls a small motor easily.
- The control board, start switch or motor — Last, because everything above is cheaper, quicker and more common. This is where the diagnosis becomes a meter job.
Check in this order, and why
- Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet — It settles the supply question in seconds and costs nothing.
- Open and shut the door firmly, then press start — Listen for the latch click; a soft close is the classic false 'door open'.
- Turn the empty drum by hand — It should spin freely with light drag. Resistance means a jam or a seized bearing, not a control fault.
- Only then suspect the board or motor — Those are tested with a meter behind the panel, which ends the owner check.

Unplug the dryer before touching the latch, the drum edge or any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. If the breaker trips again the moment you reset it, stop and leave it off: a repeated trip is a fault being reported, not a nuisance to be worked around. Never wedge the door switch closed to make the machine run.
When to call a technician
Call when the outlet is proven good, the door latches with a clean click, the drum turns freely, and the machine still will not start. From there the checks are continuity across the door switch, the start switch and the motor windings, all on live terminals. Call immediately, and leave the breaker off, if the machine trips the circuit every time it is switched on.
