The short answer
When the icemaker on the USBSF line goes quiet, the question is whether water is arriving at all. No water and the machine will cycle politely and produce nothing; water arriving into a freezer that is not cold enough will produce partial, hollow cubes instead. Those are two different faults with two different answers. What you observe on these models

- NEAR MISS — no ice and the freezer is not properly cold — Then the cooling fault is the real page; the icemaker is simply the first thing to notice it.
Causes, most likely first on the USBSF line
- Bail arm raised, icemaker switched off, or the bin jammed — The leading cause on this platform. A bin that is jammed against the arm reads to the machine as a full bin, and a full bin means no production by design.
- Freezer not cold enough to trigger a harvest — Close behind it. It matters because fixing the icemaker will not help a cabinet that has a cooling problem.
- Clogged or badly seated water filter — Third in order, and the one most often missed. The filter is the one consumable in the water path, and a restricted one drops the fill volume long before it stops it.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the bail arm is down and the switch is on — Lift the bin out, confirm nothing is holding the arm up, and confirm the icemaker switch has not been knocked. This takes seconds and settles a great many cases.
- Confirm the freezer is holding its temperature — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below. Ice forming slowly and fusing into a block is a cooling symptom, not an icemaker one.
- Change or reseat the water filter — Run several litres through the dispenser afterwards to purge the air. A filter past its life restricts flow long before it blocks it.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the sealed refrigerant circuit alone: it is licensed work, and a line opened by accident turns a small repair into a replacement.

When to call a technician
Try the free checks first, in order, and give the machine a full day after each one — an icemaker takes hours rather than minutes to show a result. Call when they are exhausted, or immediately if you find water pooling under or behind the cabinet. Do not keep pouring warm water into the mould to force a harvest; it refreezes where you cannot see it.
