The short answer
When ice stops, work backwards along the water path before anyone opens the ice maker itself.
Signs and near misses on a BC unit
- Cubes are hollow, undersized or misshapen — A partial fill on each cycle, which is a supply-pressure story rather than a mechanism failure. On the BC line this is where the checking starts.
- Production restarted on its own after a power cut and then stopped again — Intermittent behaviour of that shape usually follows the compartment temperature rather than the mechanism.
- The ice maker stopped after the household water was shut off for other work — A trapped air lock or a valve not reopened fully, and both are free to correct.
- NEAR MISS: water is pooling under the unit — A supply line or drain leak is its own fault and is covered on the water-leak page.
Causes, most likely first on the BC line
- The shut-off arm is held in its stop position — Ranked first because it costs nothing to check and explains a startling share of these calls. A bag of peas leaning on the arm reads to the control as a full bin. Nothing in how the BC line is put together changes where this sits.
- The freezer compartment has drifted a few degrees warm — Second, and the one nobody suspects: food stays frozen, so the compartment looks fine, but the harvest cycle needs a genuinely cold mould to release and it quietly never completes.
- A partly closed household shut-off valve — Flow falls without stopping, the fills come up short, and the cubes get smaller for weeks before anyone connects the two events.
- A control board fault affecting the harvest cycle — Last. It is the least common cause on this list, and it almost always shows itself somewhere else on the appliance as well.
The checking order
- Check the date of the water filter and reseat it — A filter past its life or seated a quarter-turn short restricts flow enough to starve a fill without stopping it. The BC layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Look for ice behind the ice maker rather than in it — A frozen fill tube leaves its evidence at the back wall, and it is unmistakable once you know to look.
- Compare the cubes you do get against the ones you used to get — Smaller and hollow is a flow story. Normal-sized but rare is a temperature or harvest story.
- Run the dispenser for a full minute rather than a few seconds — An air lock clears on a sustained draw and not on a short one.

Safety
Power off at the plug or the breaker first, and leave it off for the whole job. Close the water shut-off before touching a supply line. Never thaw a frozen fill tube with an open flame or a heat gun: warm water and patience do the same job without melting the plastic around it.

The line between a fix and a call
The owner side of this fault ends at the point where a valve or a module has to be tested with a meter. Call then. Call immediately if the freezer itself is not holding temperature, because the ice maker is then the least of it.
