The answer first
On the Aviva ARTM refrigerator line, when ice stops, work backwards along the water path before anyone opens the ice maker itself. The shut-off arm, the supply valve and the fill tube account for most of these calls, and none of them is a repair to the mechanism. What changes against the brand-generic answer is the order of the checks, not the list of causes.
What this looks like on a ARTM unit
- You can hear a fill attempt but nothing arrives — The module is calling for water and the water is not coming, which puts the fault upstream of the mould. On the ARTM line this is where the checking starts.
- The bin fills far more slowly than it used to — A partial fault rather than a stopped one, which usually means flow rather than mechanism.
- A thin sheet of ice under the bin — Overfill or a fill that is missing the mould, and it is worth finding before it grows.
- NEAR MISS: water is pooling under the unit — A supply line or drain leak is its own fault and is covered on the water-leak page.
Causes in likelihood order on the ARTM line
- The shut-off arm is held in its stop position — Ranked first because it costs nothing to check and explains a startling share of these calls. A bag of peas leaning on the arm reads to the control as a full bin. On the ARTM models this stays at the top because nothing about the platform makes it less likely.
- A failed ice-maker module or thermostat — Genuinely a mechanism failure, and it belongs here rather than at the top: it is diagnosed by elimination, after the feed and the temperature have been proven good.
- A partly closed household shut-off valve — Flow falls without stopping, the fills come up short, and the cubes get smaller for weeks before anyone connects the two events.
- A control board fault affecting the harvest cycle — Last. It is the least common cause on this list, and it almost always shows itself somewhere else on the appliance as well.
Where to start, and why
- Look at the shut-off arm and clear anything touching it — It is free, instant, and it ends a good share of these calls before any other check is worth making. The ARTM layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Check the date of the water filter and reseat it — A filter past its life or seated a quarter-turn short restricts flow enough to starve a fill without stopping it.
- Watch one full cycle if the unit will attempt it — Hearing a fill call with no water arriving places the fault upstream; hearing nothing at all places it in the module.

Isolate the appliance at the plug or the breaker first. Close the water valve second. Leave the door switch and its wiring exactly as built; it is part of how the appliance is designed to behave with the door open.

When to call a technician
