The short answer for MM models
When an Avanti MM microwave runs without heating, the first thing to establish is that it really is not heating. A cup of water for a minute is a far better test than a plate of food, which can be cold in the middle and hot at the edge for reasons that have nothing to do with a fault.

Switch the oven off at the socket and unplug it. On a microwave the high-voltage section holds a charge in its capacitor after the power is off, and that charge is lethal. There is no owner-serviceable part inside the case and no safe way to establish that the capacitor has discharged without the right tool.
