Causes, most likely first on the CF family
- The cabinet skin resonating against a wall or a concrete floor — First on this platform: the compressor is bolted to a large flat box, and that box is in contact with whatever it is standing on and next to.
- The lid and its hinge or counterbalance — Second: hinge springs tick and creak, and a lid not sitting flat knocks against the lip as the cabinet expands and contracts.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Isolating at the breaker is better than pulling the plug where the socket is behind the appliance, because it removes the temptation to work one-handed.

When to call a technician
