The short answer
A SED dryer that tumbles without drying is an airflow problem far more often than a failed heater. A stacked machine is fed by a supply that can fail in half, which leaves a dryer that tumbles and never warms.
What you observe on these models

- The washer below works perfectly — Which tells you the supply is present, but not that all of it is.
- The cycle finishes and the clothes are still heavy — Weight is a better test than touch: a load that has lost no weight has lost no water.
- Lint is collecting in places it did not before — Air that cannot leave deposits its lint on the way.
- NEAR MISS — the drum does not turn at all — That is a no-start fault and belongs on a different page.
Causes, most likely first on the SED family
- One leg of the supply lost at the breaker — First on this platform: the drum motor and the heat are fed differently, so losing half of the supply leaves a dryer that tumbles happily and never warms up.
- Vent restriction along a long closet run — Second: a stacked machine sits high, and its duct usually has more bends than any free-standing installation.
- The duct run behind the machine — Third on a front-load compact, because it is installed in the tightest spaces and the duct is usually crushed against the wall the moment the machine is pushed back.
- Cycle selection, including any air-only or delicate setting — Fourth, and genuinely common: a machine set to an unheated cycle tumbles perfectly and dries nothing, which reads as a heat failure.
- The load itself — Last: a single heavy item, a load spun on a low speed, or a drum packed to the top all leave more water in the machine than the cycle was designed to remove.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Switch the breaker fully off and back on, both poles — A single tripped leg leaves a dryer that tumbles and never heats, and this is the check that finds it.
- Disconnect the duct and run the machine briefly — It proves or clears the vent in two minutes.
- Check the cycle you are actually using — Air-only and delicate settings tumble without heat and look exactly like a heat failure.
- Hold the lint screen under a running tap — Water that sits on the mesh rather than passing through it names the restriction in five seconds.
- Stop at the fuse, element and thermostat — Panels off, machine isolated, and honestly a technician job on a machine in a cabinet.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Isolating at the breaker is better than pulling the plug where the socket is behind the appliance, because it removes the temptation to work one-handed.

When to call a technician
Ducts, filters, flaps, sockets and cycle selection are all owner work on a stacked electric laundry centre dryer, and between them they account for most no-heat calls. On these models the line falls at the drum supports, the belt and the motor. Call without working through anything at all for a burning smell, a cabinet that is hot to the touch, or a machine that trips its breaker.
