Auseo Refrigerator: Door, Latch or Seal Fault
A refrigerator door that does not seal costs you temperature, energy and eventually a frost problem, but the gasket is only one of three things that can cause it — the other two are the level of the cabinet and the alignment of the door on its hinges. This page takes the same fault from a different starting point: not which subsystem is likeliest on an Auseo refrigerator, but when the trouble started. Compact and undercounter cabinets dominate this range, so heat-rejection and clearance rank above component failure. What ranks first here is something you can correct yourself in under an hour, which is the reason to work down the list in order rather than book a visit straight away.
What you are actually seeing
- Check your symptom against this list first.
- An alarm or a door-ajar indicator triggering when the door looks shut.
- The door sits proud at one corner, or the gap along the top is wider at one end.
- A visibly torn, hardened or deformed gasket, or one that has come out of its channel.
- Not this fault: If the door will not open rather than not close, that is usually a vacuum from a recent opening — wait a minute and try again.
Causes, grouped by when it started
- One entry per onset pattern first — the strongest candidate for each way this fault can begin on an Auseo refrigerator — and the remainder after them. Read the label, find the pattern that matches yours, and start there rather than at the top.
- The cabinet is out of level or tilts forward — Why: Refrigerator doors are designed to close under their own weight with the cabinet sitting level or very slightly back. — Onset: Has been like this since the unit was installed or moved

- Failed door switch or ajar sensor — Why: When the alarm sounds and the seal tests good all round, the switch is the remaining candidate. It ranks last because it produces the alarm without producing an actual seal failure. — Onset: Started suddenly, between one use and the next
What to check, and in what order
- This order follows the onset groups above, so it is deliberately different from the companion page. Neither is wrong; they are two routes through one fault.
- Pin down when it started and whether it happens every time. — Why: A fault that appeared between one use and the next has a different cause set from one that crept up over months, and this answer alone removes most of the list.
- Check the cabinet is level and slightly back before touching the gasket. — Why: It is free, it is a common root cause, and correcting a gasket on a tilted cabinet just moves the problem.
- Run a paper test at eight or ten points all the way round the door. — Why: It converts a vague suspicion into a map of exactly where the seal is failing, which decides whether you clean, reseat or replace.

Unplug the unit before removing any door panel, hinge cover or trim; the door on many models carries wiring for the switch, the display and the dispenser.
Where the owner checks end
Call a technician when one of these is true, and not before.
When the paper test fails all the way round even after cleaning and levelling, which means the gasket needs replacing. When the door has dropped and the hinge needs shimming or replacing. When the door panel itself is bowed or the inner liner is cracked.
