Taking the B series on its own, an ice maker that has stopped producing resolves most often to a frozen fill tube. What the machine is doing
- Production is far slower than it used to be — Slow rather than stopped points at fill volume and at compartment temperature rather than at the module.
- The bin is empty and stays empty over days — Nothing at all is the clearest version of this fault and it usually means water is not arriving.
- The cubes have fused into one block in the bin — That is slow production and melting between harvests, not a filling problem.
- There is a thin sheet of ice under the bin — Water going somewhere other than into the mould, which is a fill or a seating problem.
- NEAR MISS — water is pooling on the floor — A supply leak needs the water off before anything else. Go to the leak page first.
Causes, most likely first on the B series
- A frozen fill tube — Clearing the tube fixes it for a week. The reason it froze in the first place is low pressure or a partly failed valve, which is why this one comes back.
- The shut-off arm or sensor reading the bin as full — An arm knocked up, or an optical sensor with frost across it, simply switches production off. Nothing is broken, and no diagnosis further down the list will find anything.
- A clogged water filter or low supply pressure — Pressure decides the fill volume, and fill volume decides cube size. This is the cause that shows up as poor ice rather than as no ice.
- A freezer compartment that is not cold enough to harvest — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and an ice maker needs that too. Above it the cycle stretches out and eventually stops completing.
- The ice maker module, motor or thermostat — This is the part most often replaced and the one it is easiest to blame early. Check the free causes first, because the module is the expensive answer.
- A bin or ice maker that is not seated properly — Anything that was removed for cleaning and put back slightly out of place shows up here, usually within a day.
What to check first, second, third
- Look at the cube shape you are getting — Full cubes say the fill is fine and the problem is downstream. Small or hollow cubes say the opposite.
- Establish whether water is arriving at all — No water and some water are two different faults with two different lists, and nothing below matters until you know which you have.
- Check the filter age and the supply shut-off behind the cabinet — Both are outside the machine, both are cheap, and both produce a convincing imitation of a failed ice maker.
- Only then suspect the module itself — It is last because it is the only expensive item on the list and the most frequently replaced without cause.

Safety
Nothing below happens on a live machine. Unplug it or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off, and remember a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant work is licensed work: the sealed system is not to be opened, tapped or topped up by an owner at any level of experience. Leave every interlock and door switch exactly as you find it: each one cuts power to something for a reason.
