It comes off supply — plug out, or breaker off — before any cover is disturbed, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant work is licensed work. Call immediately if the condenser tubing stays at room temperature while the compressor is plainly running, or if there is oil anywhere on the tubing: that is a sealed-system diagnosis and it is not an owner repair at any stage.
