On the Ariston ARWDF washer line, a water leak is worth working through in a set order: the detergent drawer, or the standpipe backing up first, then the pump filter cap or its housing, and only after those does the work that needs a meter or a teardown enter the picture. What an owner actually sees
- Water over the front edge during fill, or at the standpipe during drain — Two different moments, two different causes, both outside the machine itself.
- Water appearing from behind the kick plate at the bottom front — Low, front and only on draining is the filter housing.
- NEAR MISS — the drum is full of water and the floor is dry — That is a drainage fault, and the drainage page ranks those causes properly.
Causes in the order they are worth suspecting on the ARWDF line
- The detergent drawer, or the standpipe backing up — The first thing to suspect: a drawer blocked with softener overflows forwards every fill, and a standpipe too narrow or partly blocked sends the machine own drain water back over the top — both put clean water on the floor at a very predictable moment in the cycle.
- The pump filter cap or its housing — A filter cap left slightly proud weeps at every drain, which is a very common leak after routine maintenance.
- Inlet hoses, their washers or the drain hose connection — Hose connections leak under pressure and then stop, so they explain a puddle that comes and goes with the cycle.
- The door seal or boot, or too much detergent — The seal is worth wiping and inspecting whatever else is found, because grit there eventually cuts the rubber.
- The tub seal, the outer tub or a split internal hose — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — a leak from the tub seal or a split internal hose only appears under the machine while it is running, and reaching it means the machine on its side or apart.
What to check first, second and third
- Pull the drawer right out and look into its housing, then watch the standpipe during a drain — Soft blockages in both are visible without tools. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Remove the kick plate and look at the filter cap and its seal — A cap that is not square, or a perished seal, both leak at exactly this point. Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Pull the machine out, dry every fitting and watch them through a fill — A bead re-forming at a joint within a minute or two names the fitting. Third, once the two checks above are clean.
Before you start work
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or kick plate, and shut both taps before touching an inlet hose — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a machine standing in water beside a socket is a genuine hazard. Dry the floor before you start rather than after. Never run a machine with a panel removed to see where the water comes from.

Where owner work ends
Call at once if water is reaching a socket or running under a neighbouring appliance, and shut the taps and the breaker while you wait. A leak that only appears during fill is the one to treat as urgent.
