The short answer
On the Arctic Wind ATMWE refrigerator line, a cabinet that is not cooling is worth working through in a set order: door seals, over-packing and blocked internal vents first, then a dust-blanketed condenser coil, or a condenser fan that has stopped, and only after those does the sealed system enter the picture. That order is written for a single-model line and sequenced for how these models are put together, which is where it departs from the brand-generic article.
What you observe
- The fresh-food side is warm while the freezer is still cold — A split like that is nearly always air movement between the compartments rather than cooling itself.
- The compressor runs almost continuously and the back of the cabinet is very hot — Heat with nowhere to go is the signature of a blocked coil or a fan that has stopped.
- NEAR MISS — the freezer is fine and only the ice maker has stopped — That is an ice production fault; the cooling system is doing its job.
Causes, most likely first on the ATMWE line
- Door seals, over-packing and blocked internal vents — First on this list: warm air arriving faster than the machine can remove it looks exactly like a failing refrigerator, and on a cabinet that is packed to the back wall the vents between the compartments are covered, so cold never reaches the fresh-food side at all.
- A dust-blanketed condenser coil, or a condenser fan that has stopped — A dirty coil or a stopped condenser fan produces a cabinet that never quite reaches temperature, and both are visible from the back.
- A stalled defrost cycle icing up the evaporator — A stalled defrost cycle ices the evaporator over slowly, so the cabinet warms while everything else appears to work.
- Thermostat, sensor or control settings — A control or sensor fault is the remaining explanation when everything mechanical checks out and the error is small but constant.
- Sealed system, compressor or start components — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — a sealed-system or compressor fault means the machine cannot make cold at all, and refrigerant work is licensed work with tools that are not owner tools.
Check in this order, and why
- Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull — If it slides out with no drag the seal is not sealing. Repeat at several points around the door. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Unplug the unit and look at the condenser coil and fan at the back or underneath — Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Empty the freezer and look at the rear panel — Third, once the two checks above are clean.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. While the cabinet is warm, treat the food as the priority: a refrigerator holds food safely at 40 °F (4 °C) or below, so move anything perishable into a cooler with ice before you start work rather than after.

When to call a technician
Call when the seals, the vents, the coil and a full defrost have all been done and the cabinet still will not hold temperature, because what is left is the sealed system. Call the same day if nothing at all is cold, so that the food question gets decided quickly.
