The short answer

When to call a technician
Call when cubes form fully and never release, because that pattern points at the harvest side and nothing an owner can reach will change it. Call immediately if you find water anywhere around the supply fitting, and close the household shut-off before you do: a leaking supply behind a heavy cabinet does far more damage than a week without ice.
