What this means on this family
When the ARB family stops making ice, the order in which you check matters more than the parts list. The table on this page carries a single model number, so everything here describes one build. Water supply first, temperature second, mechanism last — the reverse of the order most owners try.
What an owner actually sees
- No ice at all, and the mould is dry — A dry mould means water never arrived. That moves the whole diagnosis upstream to the supply, the valve and the line.
- Cubes are hollow, small or misshapen — A partial fill: water is arriving but not enough of it, or not for long enough, which points at pressure or the valve rather than the mechanism.
- It stopped after the cabinet was moved or the filter changed — The strongest clue on this page, because it names the work that disturbed the water path.
- The bin fills far more slowly than it used to — A rate change rather than a failure. It usually tracks the compartment temperature or a partly restricted fill.
- NEAR MISS — the whole freezer section is soft and the ice is melting — That is a cooling failure, and the ice is just the first thing to show it. Use the cooling page instead.
Causes, most likely first on the ARB line
- The supply side: tap, line and connection — Ranked first because a cabinet that is plumbed in has a whole length of pipework outside itself, and every one of those points fails more often than the ice maker does. Confirm water arrives before suspecting anything inside.
- The inlet valve and the fill tube — Second, because it is the boundary between the plumbing and the machine, and it fails in a way that mimics both. A valve that will not open gives a dry mould; a tube that is partly iced gives a hollow cube.
- How cold the ice compartment actually is — Third, and it is the cause that produces the complaint of ice that is slow rather than absent. The control waits for a temperature it is not getting.
- Harvest mechanism and shut-off arm — Fourth. Mechanical failure of the module is real but uncommon, and a shut-off arm or sensor held up by a lump of ice in the bin looks exactly like it for free. Check the bin before the module.
- The control side — Last, by elimination. Electronics fail without warning and without a pattern, which is precisely why they are the wrong first guess for a symptom that has four mechanical explanations.
The order to work in on these models
- Reset the shut-off arm or clear the sensor path — Done second because it is the cause most often found after the bin is emptied.
- Check the fill tube for an ice plug — A plug is cleared with warm air and patience. Never with a tool — the tube deforms and then leaks.
- Confirm the supply side — Tap, line and connection, in that order, so that a dry mould is explained before parts are considered.
- Measure the compartment last — Placed last because it takes hours to do properly and the quicker checks usually answer the question first.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the cabinet at the plug or the breaker before any cover comes off, and close the water shut-off before touching the line. Sharp metal edges sit inside the ice compartment on cabinets of this build, and the mould release can be hot immediately after a harvest cycle. A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below. If ice is fusing in the bin, the compartment is spending part of its cycle above that, so check the frozen food as well as the ice maker.

Where owner work stops
Call once the free checks are done — bin cleared, arm reset, supply confirmed, temperature measured — and the maker still does nothing. Bring those four answers to the call and the visit is usually one trip. On the ARB family the module is the last thing to suspect and the first thing owners replace, which is why the order above exists.
