F1-L in plain terms
F1-L means there may be a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring between them. When it appears only now and then, the fault is usually a connection that makes and breaks rather than a part that has failed outright; do not rely on the oven until the cause is found, because each appearance can cancel a cook.

| F1-L | There may be a problem with the Oven Temperature Sensor, the Control, or the associated wiring. |
What you see with F1-L
- F1-L every few days with normal baking in between — A connection that is failing, not a dead part.
- The code mostly at high settings — Expansion opening a weak joint as the oven heats.
- The code when the door is slammed or the range is bumped — Vibration disturbing a loose connector.
- Temperatures that jump on the display — The reading itself flickers as the connection breaks.
Causes of F1-L, ranked
- A loose or corroded connector behind the sensor — First for an intermittent code: heat cycling works terminals loose until they make contact only some of the time.
- A sensor with an internal fault that opens when hot — Second: some sensors fail only at temperature and recover as they cool.
- A lead partly broken inside its insulation — Third: the conductor touches on and off as the lead flexes.
- The control — Last: control faults are less often heat- or vibration-dependent.
What to check first for F1-L
- Keep a log of each appearance — Hot or cold, which setting, and anything moving; the pattern names the suspect.
- Inspect and reseat the sensor connector — The likeliest cause and the easiest to fix.
- Have the sensor tested at temperature — A technician can test it hot, where an intermittent sensor fails.
- Test the harness while flexing it — A break that only shows on movement is found this way.
What an owner can safely do about F1-L
- Log the pattern — Note each appearance with the setting, how long the oven had been on and anything that moved.
Tools: pen and paperAbout 2 min
- Reseat the connector — Power off and cold: remove the sensor screws, ease it forward, unplug and firmly replug the connector, then refit.
Tools: screwdriverAbout 15 min
- Check the lead for kinks — As you ease the probe forward, look for a sharp bend or flattened section in the lead.
Tools: flashlightAbout 3 min
- Reset and watch — Restore power and use the oven normally, updating the log if the code returns.
Tools: breaker panel accessAbout 5 min
Safety before you start
Safety
Switch off the breaker or unplug the range before removing the sensor or any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. An intermittent fault can cancel heat or let the control misjudge it, so do not leave the oven unattended while F1-L is unresolved. On a gas range, if you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside.
When to book a service call for F1-L
Call if F1-L keeps returning after the connector has been reseated, or if your log shows it only at temperature. Testing a sensor hot and flexing a harness under a meter are technician tasks, and your log tells them where to begin.

What this reading does not cover
This reading of F1-L applies to Amana ovens whose control reports the oven temperature sensor circuit with this code, as the table states. Other Amana controls report the same circuit in other formats, and a model-specific page, where one exists, is the better guide. None is listed for F1-L yet; the Amana oven code index below is the place to start.
