The short answer on F1-3
F1-3 means there may be a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring between them. The sensor is the usual fix, but when a new sensor does not clear F1-3, the fault is in the connector, the harness or the control, and the oven should not be used until it is found.

| F1-3 | There may be a problem with the Oven Temperature Sensor, the Control, or the associated wiring. |
Behaviour that comes with F1-3
- F1-3 still showing after a new sensor — The fault is upstream of the sensor.
- The code appears instantly at power-up — A hard open or short in the harness or the control's input.
- Heat that switches on and off erratically — The control is getting a reading that jumps around.
- A harness socket darker than the new sensor's plug — Old heat damage on the harness side of the connection.
Why F1-3 appears, in likelihood order
- The wrong replacement sensor — Check this first after a replacement: a sensor for a different model can read outside the control's range.
- A damaged connector on the harness side — Second: replacing the sensor replaces only half of the connection.
- A break or short in the harness — Third: wiring between the connector and the control, often near hot panels.
- The control's sensor input — Fourth: with sensor and harness proven, the control is what remains.
Diagnosing F1-3: the order that saves time
- Confirm the replacement matches your model number — Ruling out the wrong part takes a minute.
- Inspect the harness-side connector — Look at the socket the new sensor plugs into for browning or loose terminals.
- Check the harness for continuity — A technician meters from the sensor connector to the control.
- Test the control input — Last, once everything before it is proven.
Clearing F1-3 and checking it safely
- Check the part number — Compare the sensor fitted with the part listed for your model number.
Tools: owner's manualAbout 5 min
- Reseat the new sensor — Power off: remove its screws, ease it forward, unplug and firmly replug it, then refit.
Tools: screwdriverAbout 15 min
- Reset and test — Breaker off for a minute, on again, and start a bake.
Tools: breaker panel accessAbout 5 min
- Keep the old sensor — If you replaced it yourself, the technician may want to test it for comparison.
Safety on this appliance
Safety
Unplug the range or switch off its breaker before removing the sensor or any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Harness and control checks involve live measurements in the console and at the back of the range, which are not owner tasks. On a gas range, if you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside. Keep the oven off between tests, because a faulty circuit can let the control misjudge the heat.
Reset or repair: where the line is
Call once a correct, firmly seated new sensor has not cleared F1-3. From that point the fault is in the harness or the control, and finding it means tracing the wiring with a meter and testing the control's input. Have the part number of the sensor you fitted to hand, so a mismatch can be ruled out at once.

Model coverage and limits
This reading of F1-3 applies to Amana ovens whose control reports the oven temperature sensor circuit with this code, as the table states. Other Amana controls report the same circuit in other formats, and a model-specific page, where one exists, takes precedence. None is listed for F1-3 yet; start from the Amana oven code index below.
