What E24 means
E24 means the control detected an overheat condition of 500F (260C) in the oven and flagged it as a fault. Turn the oven off, keep the door closed while it cools, and do not cook with it until the cause is found; an oven that overheats once can do it again.

| E24 | The oven reached an overheat condition of 500F (260C). There may a problem with the Thermal Sensor, the Gas Sensor, the Appliance Control Board, or the associated wiring. |
What the oven does alongside E24
- E24 with an oven far hotter than set — Food burns at a normal setting; the door and window feel unusually hot.
- Heat that continues with the oven off — A glowing element or a lit burner after switch-off is the serious form of this fault.
- Smoke or a strong burnt smell — Overheated residue smokes first; keep the door shut and the oven off.
- A single E24 after a long cook, nothing else — Still worth a sensor check: the next trip may not be marginal.
What triggers E24, most likely first
- A thermal sensor reading wrong — Listed first in the documentation: an under-reading sensor lets the control keep heating; an over-reading one raises a false alarm.
- A heater relay stuck closed on the Appliance Control Board — The control commands heat off and the contacts stay shut.
- The gas sensor, on gas models — Named by the documentation for gas units; a technician check.
- Wiring to or from the control — A damaged lead can let a heater run unswitched or corrupt the sensor signal; traced last.
Check order for E24, and why
- Turn the oven off and watch whether heat stops — Heat that continues means a stuck switch, and power comes off next.
- Cool it, then test with an oven thermometer — An attended bake at a moderate setting shows a real overshoot or a false reading.
- Have the sensor measured — A reading out of range at room temperature settles the false-alarm branch.
- Test relay, gas sensor and wiring — A technician does this under power once the sensor is cleared.
Reset and owner-safe checks
- Stop and cool — Cancel the cycle, switch off, keep the door closed and let it cool fully.
About 30 min
- Kill power if heat continues — Switch off the breaker, or close the gas shutoff on a gas model, and leave it off.

- One attended thermometer test — Once cool, bake briefly at a moderate setting with a thermometer inside; cancel at once if it overshoots.

- Clear the display — Breaker off for a minute and back on; treat a reset as a test, never a fix.

Safety
An overheat code is a fire-risk code: never leave the oven running unattended while E24 is unresolved. Unplug the range or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. If you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside.
When E24 needs a technician
Call straight away if heat continues with the oven off, if the code returns after a cool-down, or if the thermometer test overshoots. A stuck relay, a gas sensor fault and harness damage all need testing under power, and none is a part to swap on a guess.

Which models this reading covers
This reading of E24 applies to Amana ovens whose control monitors for the overheat condition in the table, on the gas and electric models the documentation describes. It does not cover protection that acts without showing a code, and a model-specific page, where one exists, is the better guide. None is listed for E24 yet; begin at the Amana oven code index below.
