The short answer

- Water filter head, cartridge or its seal leaking — Next. The filter head is the one water joint owners handle themselves, and a cartridge seated a fraction proud or an old seal left in place leaks a small amount continuously.
- Defrost drain blocked with ice or sludge — Third in order. Meltwater from each defrost has exactly one way out. When the drain trough freezes or silts up, the water backs up under the crisper drawers and finds the floor by the shortest route.
- Water inlet valve seeping — Last, and the least likely of the four. The valve holds mains pressure whenever the machine is idle, so a weeping seat leaks around the clock rather than only during a fill. The tell is a wet patch at the back that never fully dries.

- Dry the inside of the door and the liner and watch where it returns — Start here. A leak that only appears after the dispenser is used points at the internal line rather than at the drain.
- Reseat the water filter and dry the housing — Then this. A housing that is wet again within a day is the seal; a housing that stays dry sends you elsewhere.
- Pull the crisper drawers and look for water under them — Third. Water standing in the bottom of the fresh-food liner is the drain answer, and it appears there before it appears on the floor.
