The short answer

Causes, most likely first on this family
- Door seal leaking, or a door that has been standing ajar — Top of the list on these models. A gasket that has taken a set no longer pulls the door tight at the hinge corner. The unit then runs continuously against a slow air leak and frosts in places it should not.
- Defrost cycle stalled and the evaporator iced over — Second. Adaptive defrost degrades before it fails outright, so ice builds on the evaporator over weeks, airflow drops, and the owner notices the warmth long before anyone notices the frost sheet behind the rear panel.
- Condenser fan slowed, stalled or fouled — Third on this platform. A fan that no longer moves air across the coil produces the same warm cabinet as a dirty coil, but it usually comes with a change in the sound of the machine rather than a gradual slide.

- Take the freezer rear panel off and look for a frost sheet — Then this. A solid sheet across the evaporator is the airflow answer; a light dusting is normal and means keep looking.
- Watch the condenser fan while the compressor runs — Third. A fan that is not turning, or turning against debris, is visible from the same access panel as the coil.
