The short answer
The A family is Amana’s grouping for fifteen coded models, and a fault on one of them is usually a fault on the rest. Temperature is the class that dominates, and it drags the leak and the ice complaints along with it more often than not.
What goes wrong, and where it is covered
- Runs but will not hold temperature — The cabinet hums all day and never gets cold, or one compartment holds while the other drifts. Covered on the cooling page.
- The ice maker has stopped filling the bucket — The maker cycles and produces nothing, or produces one welded block instead of cubes. Covered on the ice-maker page.
- Water under the drawers or on the floor — Water after a defrost is inside the cabinet; a patch that never dries is a pressurised joint. Covered on the water-leak page.
- A noise the cabinet did not used to make — A tick, a drone or a knock that was not there before, and that gets blamed on the compressor. Covered on the noise page.
In frequency order
- Cooling — Leads here. It pulls the other three along behind it.
- Ice — Next. Cheap causes dominate: supply, shutoff arm, freezer temperature.
- Water — Next. Usually a drain that has silted up rather than a joint that has failed.
- Noise — Least common. Fans, fasteners and feet, plus normal cycle noise read as a fault.
