The short answer

- Check the appliance sits square in its opening — A cabinet racked by the installation twists the door frame, and no gasket will fix that. A spirit level across the front settles it.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Support the door with both hands whenever it is off its stops; a door that drops takes the hinge slots with it. Never run the oven with the door held shut by anything other than its own latch.

When to call a technician
