The short answer
When an ACR oven will not reach temperature, the question that sorts the list is whether it is heating at all or heating badly. The generic Amana answer cannot make that split for you; here it decides everything below.
What you actually observe
- Preheat takes far longer than it used to — Time it once so you have a number to compare.
- The broiler works but bake does not — One function lost and the other kept is the most useful thing this oven can tell you.
- A glowing igniter with no flame following it — Glowing is not the same as working.
- NEAR MISS — the surface burners work and the oven does not — On a range that is normal and expected: they are separate circuits and separate controls.
Causes on the ACR listings, most likely first
- A failed bake element — An element that has burned through usually shows it: a blister, a break, or a bright scorch on the cavity floor beneath it. A broken bake element gives you a cavity that stays cold while everything on the panel behaves normally. The listings above differ by trim rather than by mechanism, so which trim you own does not move this ranking.
- A weak oven igniter on the gas listings — A tired igniter glows but no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve, so it sits there orange and nothing happens. The classic symptom is an oven that takes longer and longer to light and then one day does not.
- A control left in a timed, delay or lockout state — A clock left in timed bake, a delay start still counting, or the control lock engaged will all leave you with an oven that refuses to heat and shows nothing obviously wrong.
- An oven temperature sensor out of tolerance — The control only knows the cavity through one probe, and a drifted sensor lets it stop heating early or cycle wrongly.
Check in this order, and why
- Cancel every timer and mode, then run a plain bake — It is free, it takes a minute, and a control left in a timed or locked state is a common reason for a cold oven.
- Look at the element with the oven calling for heat — An electric element should glow evenly along its length within a couple of minutes; anything else is a result.
- Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack — Only worth doing on an oven that heats at all, and conclusive when it is a calibration question.
- Check both halves of the breaker and the terminal block — Do this first if anything electrical has happened; do it last if the oven is simply slow.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Let the cavity cool fully before reaching inside: an element that has failed can still be hot, and the racks hold heat longer than the air does. Never defeat the door lock or the door switch to keep a cycle running; on these models it is what stops the cavity from being opened at temperature.
Models in the ACR family — 4 listings differing by trim; the mechanism behind this fault is common to all of them. A masked suffix in a listing covers the colour and trim variants of that model.

When to call a technician
Resetting the breaker, checking the clock has not been left in a delay or timed-bake state and confirming the oven is not in a lockout are owner steps. Replacing a bake element, an igniter or a safety valve is not: all three sit on the supply side of the appliance.
