The short answer
On the ACR oven this symptom is usually the door gasket, which is the one part in this assembly that is meant to be soft and is the first to stop being so. The ACR family splits across trim and finish suffixes rather than across different machinery, so the order below holds for every one of them.
What you observe
- Heat you can feel escaping at one edge of the closed door — A local escape names the section of seal or the corner of the door that has moved.
- The outer glass is far hotter than it used to be — Heat reaching the space between the panes, which is the glass pack rather than the outer seal.
- The door has to be lifted to close cleanly — A dropped door, which is hinges or receivers and not the gasket.
- The door will not open after a clean cycle — The lock mechanism has stopped part-way and forcing it is the one thing that must not be done.
- NEAR MISS — the door is fine but food still will not brown — An even door with a slow oven is a heat or sensor problem, and the not-heating page is where that gets worked.
Causes, most likely first on the ACR family
- Door gasket hardened, torn or displaced — First on this family. It leads here because it is visible, it is cheap, and it is the cause of the majority of complaints about an oven door.
- Latch or lock mechanism not releasing or not engaging — Second on these models. A lock motor that stops part-way leaves a door that will not open after a clean cycle, which is the most alarming version of this fault.
- Inner glass loose, misaligned or its retainers broken — Third. It also explains condensation and grease appearing between the panes, which no gasket can cause.
- Door switch not making, so the oven believes the door is open — Last of the four, and the one to reach for only when the others are clean. A switch that has stopped making leaves the light on with the door shut and stops cycles that require a confirmed door.
- Body: A brand-generic article on this symptom starts with the door gasket, and so does this one.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a hand along the gasket for hard spots, gaps and missing clips — Any section that no longer springs back under a finger is not sealing, and that is enough to explain heat at the door.
- Listen to the lock run through its full travel with the oven cold — Hesitation, humming or a reversal part-way through is the mechanism, and forcing the door will only make it worse.
- Look for an uneven margin around the inner pane and for marks between the glass — A pane sitting off-centre, or dirt trapped between panes, points at the glass pack rather than the gasket.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing a door, a panel or any glass — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.

When to call a technician
Call when the gap is uneven rather than the gasket being tired, because that is a hinge, receiver or frame problem and not a parts swap. Call immediately for a door locked shut after a clean cycle that has not released once the oven is completely cold.
